I tell people a lot that engagements are kind of my safe haven for photography. These are the kind of photos I started out loving to take and from there my passion flourished into wedding photography. Engagement sessions are a unique opportunity to learn about people, to hear their story and to see how they interact together and capture that. It is kind of magic. We hadn’t met Nicole or Jacob yet and I will say that even though that doesn’t happen very often it sometimes makes me nervous because Doug and I are kind of odd birds. Sometimes I think I come off as socially awkward and we for sure look kind of goofy. Engagement sessions usually have us getting into fields or laying on the ground or in some cases getting wet so by the end of it we don’t always look so pretty and its a unique opportunity to see how Doug and I work as a team. Nicole and Jacob were absolutely so sweet and so genuine with us it was nice to spend the time getting to know them. We had kind of a bumpy start as our original location just didn’t work out so we went with a plan B which you sometimes just have to do in the photography world especially when it comes to weddings and weather. Nicole and Jacob went with it like champs and we ended up having a super great evening photographing their engagement photos. As you can see they were very natural and loving together and that just makes our job so much easier. Engagement sessions are the polar opposite of weddings and that’s kind of why I like them. At a wedding I fully expect for there to be a little chaos and lots of phones around snapchatting our antics and documenting the day but engagements are just a little slice of photography solace that we can have to really let the creativity shine and the genuine magic flow. Thanks Nicole and Jacob for an awesome evening, we look forward to the big day!
