When we shoot destination weddings, as we did for Aubrey and Colton’s Riviera Maya Wedding this past weekend we always insist on shooting “Next Day” Photos. We do this for a few reasons but primarily it’s because we can’t possibly shoot ALL of the photos that we want in these beautiful locations in just an hour on the wedding day especially when some of these places have beauty that spans for MILES on super large resorts. The other reason is that we really like to have “in the ocean” shots for couples so that they have a little fun memory from their big trips. Sometimes brides trash their regular wedding dresses (and when I use the term trash I just mean getting it wet and don’t worry, it will come out cleaner than it went in) and other times brides buy a second gown for the experience. Colton and Aubrey embraced this shoot fully and weren’t afraid to get a little crazy in some deeper (calm) water for their photos and we are grateful for their flexibility and patience as we not only filmed and shot photos but also utilized the drone a bit for some of their shots. We had a long list of photos and sites planned for the two hours before sunset the day after the wedding and we were able to hit all the planned locations we had scouted the few days before. Thankfully, it was warm but still breezy and allowed us to move around freely through the resort making the best use of the amazing property. Aubrey chose a beautiful second dress to use and it actually made it easier for her to move in and out of the water. As always, we choose safety over art and we never put our couples in dangerous spots unless we are sure they can be safe and thankfully the resort had a lot of wave breakers and shallow areas where we could get the couple in and out without issue of riptide or rough waves. We don’t always get that luxury with destination weddings so we were grateful for that. We just love this couple, it was cool joining them for a week and we spent a lot of time with them so much so I feel like we’ve known them forever. Thanks for being flexible and not stressing small things like heat or humidity or sand, we think that made for some incredible memories.
Congrats!
