Aside from the few weddings we have had this winter, we have stayed pretty quiet this winter quietly working on big projects such as taxes, a new website, and a total rebrand. This re-brand didn’t come easily and without some serious thought. Long ago, we weren’t exactly sure how this whole photography thing was going to go and I’ll be honest- I didn’t put much thought into the name of our photography business. We started out rocky like most small businesses go, we learned a lot of things we should have known going in and though we didn’t traditionally start out as a “husband/wife team” we have evolved into a fluid partnership that has to date shot well over 175 weddings in just a few short years.
It’s been a wild ride. We started out doing just photography and Doug wasn’t sure just how much involvement he would have so I approached my dear friend Tanya Pedersen of Design Pro with the suggestion of “Kate Key Photography.” There aren’t a lot of Kate Key’s out there so I figured it was just unique enough to move forward. Later on, we decided to add in Doug’s passion (videography) and out of that was born “Key-Films.” I fell in love with both logos and decided I could NEVER part with either. We painted our office to match the color scheme and decorated with the logos and even got some killer embroidered clothing to support our new enterprises. After a few years of maintaining two separate blogs, two separate websites, two different business cards, and countless other items we finally decided to really become a true husband/wife team under one name while keeping the same services, the same style, and the same old same old. Pretty much the only thing that has changed is the merger of our two websites into one (and blogs). And no, we won’t be repainting and we are going to use each and every business card till we run out 😉
Tanya Pedersen from Design Pro is amazing you guys, for real. Not only is she a dear friend to us and has been for such a long time she has supported our business from the beginning and has provided us with two AMAZING websites, killer business cards, creative and kick-ass logos, and the kind of creativity I could only dream of. Any bride planning a wedding would be lucky to have this girl in their corner making their invites, their programs, and their drink huggies. While I had a really hard time parting with both websites she designed for us as well as losing the unique names and logos I couldn’t be happier with the new design she has provided us. It merges together perfectly our offerings and I’m so grateful to her. In case you were wondering, she also designed that super amazing picture we have posted here through cartoon animation which she drew by hand.
Without any more blubbering we finally introduce to you our new name, our new logo, and our new website and blog. It’s pretty obvious how we came up with it as most of the time when we hear people talk about our photography services we’ll hear something like “oh, who shot your wedding?” and the response is always “The Key’s.” We hear “The Key’s” in response to those questions so many times it only made sense. You can still get to all our website and blog details by going to katekeyphotography.com, thekeysphoto.com, and thekeysvideo.com. We will be slowly migrating the key-films.com site into our blog. We can’t wait to have you check it out. Be patient with us as we roll over everything to this new look, this was a huge undertaking and we are now ready for a little bit of a winter vacation 🙂
Cheers!
