Kelley and Bryan | Destination Wedding in Curacao (Mini Series Part 3)

If you missed part 1 and 2 of the Kelley and Bryan Mini Series you missed out on all the beauty and crazy surrounding our trip to Curacao and wedding events! You should go back and read it! One of our traditions for destination weddings is to really take advantage of the surroundings and shoot “next day” photos and get a little, um, dirty. Typically when the ocean is involved we like to shoot photos in the water also and that’s just what I had in store for these guys. Bryan and Kelley are both wedding photographers so I really didn’t have to arm twist at all, the nice thing about it is that not only did I have ideas, they did as well and their ideas were of course utilizing great light. This is why shooting for wedding photographers can be pretty awesome, they know not to put themselves in really crappy light 🙂

We literally couldn’t have pulled this off without the help of several people. Because Doug hadn’t been able to get a flight down to the island post all our cancellations and weather disruptions I was again shooting this solo. Kelley’s mom Julie and her husband Mark literally became our photo assistants and I can’t thank them enough for helping hold lights and hold Kelley’s huge dress train down as the wind didn’t make things easy for us. Mark even got wet holding some of my lights for the evening shots but it was well worth the effort. Another person we need to thank is Hynrich Tokaai of Hynrich Property Management in Curacao who let us back into the first bridal mansion the group stayed in for some stunning photos. This house is one of the most beautiful properties I’ve ever seen and Hynrich is one of the kindest people we all met on the trip. We got to know he and his beautiful wife at the wedding reception, we were so glad they joined us! The house was worth the trip as we shot many bridal shots of Kelley and Bryan there with the stunning backdrop. With the help of everyone and a little bit of duct tape we were able to get in a lot of photos before the sun went down and it was definitely worth riding wet all the way back to the house. Next day portraits really help us out in the long run because a wedding day goes by SO Fast and when you get married in such a beautiful place like Curacao you want to make sure you have enough photos in different places to really do the area justice. This is why I was glad we were able to get this in even if we had to enlist the help of family to pull it off. I’m so glad that my friends entrusted me with the biggest day in their life, the fun is still yet to come as we have their Illinois reception this coming weekend so let the cake pops commence!
