When I was around 4 years old, my mother moved us into a new house in a new neighborhood shortly after my father passed. Being only 4, I don’t remember much about that time but about the time I turned 7-8 years old, I remember the neighborhood being FULL of kids my own age and having a blast finally having friends in the area I could play with. In my own backyard, there were two little boys that loved to play football and sports in the backyard and even though I couldn’t throw worth crap, they always let me play with them. As we grew up, I even babysat for them (those of you that know me are probably like WHAAAA?!). Now, as I sit and cry about how old I’ve gotten I write the blog about the day one of those little boys got married…. (I promise not to call you Robbie in this blog…)Whoops 😉
Rob found Nicole. Nicole is great. Not only did she tolerate my humor and antics, she seemed to embrace it. We had a blast being real with each other all day as we went through morning prep. I had plenty of stories to tell about Rob and Chris from childhood and I could see that Rob chose well. We headed over to St. Peters/O’Fallon area to meet Nicole and her bridesmaids for hair and makeup at a beautiful salon in O’Fallon. Nicole’s hair and makeup was STUNNING and she was glowing and happy all morning long. We headed to the church where Nicole got dressed in the most AMAZING full gown that made her look like a royal princess and with her cascading bouquet, she looked straight out of a bridal magazine. We were able to squeeze in a few outdoor photos prior to the wedding ceremony started and the weather was absolutely perfect – mid 70’s and breezy. The ceremony got off to a touching start as the Devall boys honored their late father with a candle tribute and the wedding party came happily down the aisle (even the kids made it!). Rob was all smiles as Nicole walked down the aisle and well wishers and family gathered in support of the couple as they exchanged rings. The post ceremony photos went off without a hitch and soon we were on the party bus headed to a beautiful park for post ceremony photos. It got a little warm but we managed to create some epic veil shots and fun bridal party photos while at the location. Nicole and Rob entered the reception in pure style and topped off the evening with a lip sync contest, a fish eye camera, and an awesome meal for their guests. For the record, Nicole TOTALLY won the lip sync contest, I think we may have witnessed some voter fraud 😉 All in all it was the perfect day.
The entire Devall holds a special place in my heart – Rob’s mom Patti was my third grade teacher and Rob’s dad Kent was the best kind of dad (he got many a ball off the roof for us as kids). My heart was so full in the way that Rob and Nicole chose to honor Kent as well as toast him at the wedding reception. I am absolutely sure that he was with us on Saturday – blessing us with beautiful weather and the perfect day. Nicole and Rob I wish you nothing but the best.
Cheers,
The Keys
